SAC question

Hi Further Maths people!

I was having some difficulty getting a decent triangle for this question. If you know, could you please help me?? It's for tomorrow lol, I only thought of asking people on this forum now! :(

Barbara is in an aeroplane at 200 metres. She sees Cairo to her south and Giza at 117 degrees True Bearing. If the angles of depression to Cairo and Giza are 10 degrees and 5 degrees respectively, find the distance between Cairo and Giza.

What do I need to do for a start?? I don't get what kind of triangle to use!

Thanks!

Wow, you're amazing! I didn't know what to do for that! So both of the triangles are right-angled??

Thanks HEAPS for your help! :)

But with the triangle with Giza, doesn't the angle go for over the 1st quadrant? :(

Imagine the Cartesian plane on flat ground, the plane is directly above the ground, therefore it is 90 deg XD

I got 2039 as an answer. That sound appropriate to you guys? I actually checked the internet for distances between Cairo and Giza lol but was unsuccessful...

Yes I got 2039m.

, where x is the distance b/w Cairo and Giza.

Solve for x.

Awesome, guys!

Thanks heaps for your help! :)

Just out of curiosity, how did you manage to come up with such a quick and efficient solution? Most of us didn't have a clue what it was about :P

The more you do these kind of questions, you will soon start to be able to visualise it much better. Again, it is just a matter of practise :)

In maths, the more questions you do, the better/faster you will start to be able to do these questions.

Haha I had no time to study for this SAC seeing it was only 3 days after midyears, so I didn't attempt any questions outside my text, really should have done that!
