hi guys !

I'm in the midst of writing an expository practice piece for Encountering Conflict.
I have a little idea of the path I want my essay to follow but I don't think many of my ideas extend broadly enough. I want to write a sustained piece with at least 1000 words so I have to get the ideas flowing :p

What ideas and examples, inspired by the Rugmaker and current events do you think I should include when writing in response to the following prompt : In times of conflict, people care more about themselves than others.

I read the Rugmaker for this SAC too! I'll list the things I wrote about, I got a B+ (with a harsh teacher marking it).

-Najaf coming to Australia, the conflict in Woomera and how he refused to get involved in fights because he knew it would affect his chances of being accepted to Australia.
-Najaf nearly losing his leg, his internal conflict with his feelings about that
-Najaf having to learn English in a foreign land he didn't know much about

Not sure if you are doing this too, but we had to mention conflicts outside the book.
-Martin Luther King and his fight against racism in 1960's America
-Kitty Genovese (a case from Psychology if you take it) and the bystanders who failed to overcome internal conflicts and a woman died as a result
-Mother Teresa, and her struggle against societies conventions re. helping poor people

I hope that helps, I can add more details if you need :)

There are many other things you can write about

Racism in AFL (Adam Goodes incident)
Busting the Berlin Wall
Mahatma Gandhi salt march
Uprising in Syria

Just to name a few.
Putting a lot of external examples will score highly (speaking from experience)
Good Luck!
