The Reluctant Fundamentalist SAC help!
« on: June 18, 2013, 09:37:15 pm »

Hi everyone! I have a SAC on The Reluctant Fundamentalist on Thursday and was wondering if I could get some help and ideas. Basically my prompt is, 'Many characters in The Reluctant Fundamentalist are dangerously addicted to nostalgia. Discuss.' What could I discuss and mention in each of my body paragraphs? How could I structure the essay? Ideas? Arguments?

Thanks!

Omg nostalgia was by favourite parts of this whole book. bascially almost everyone is nostalgic in some, trying to grip and hold onto a past that is gone.

- Changez is nostalgic for his homeland Lahore when in America and the moments that he misses with his family. Especially the part when he talks about fireflies. Also you could say that too an extent he is nostalgic over pre-9/11 America if you believe him when he says he is a lover of America.
- Changez parents are nostalgic and still live in the past when they were rich people in town but not anymore but they still try to live like that by still attending the parties and keeping their punjab club membership
- Erica is nostalgic over Chris who died
- America after 9/11 is nostalgic of the times when they were the superpower in the world and people feared them, now they just feel vulnerable and could be under attack any second.

There are so many good quotes in the book on this topic as well. Cant really remember them though :P

Thanks for the response! I have started an intro and a body, having a bit of difficulty in expanding, I hope something comes to mind. Don't even know if I have structure it that well to be honest.

I can't help because I've never read the text, but when typing you should always italicise titles such as The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and underline them whilst handwriting.

**Not meaning to be a cockhead here... just in case you go into uni Lit or Film Studies or something that required you to mention titles in  your assignments**
