MUEP Biology
grannysmith:
Would it be a good idea to do 4 3/4s + MUEP bio in year 12 considering I would have completed 3/4 bio in year 11?
So basically:
Year 11- Biology Unit 3/4
Year 12- Spesh, Methods, Chemistry, English/Language + MUEP Biology
Either MUEP bio or physics... but I think the latter will be more interesting and useful.
The criteria says that I have to have already completely VCE biology or be doing it alongside the extension program.
I've checked the timetable, and the lectures and pracs are either during school hours, or right after 3pm, which is not ideal. Therefore I am left with the off-campus option.
You thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)
P.S. Or would it be advisable to do BOTH physics and MUEP?
alondouek:
First-year uni bio at Monash is very, very similar to most of units 1-4 bio, with the exception of a couple of areas of study. If you really enjoy and excel at biology (and you should, it's the best) take MUEP bio, because doing well at this could potentially be better for your ATAR than if you take physics and it ends up in your bottom two.
Essentially, play to your strengths.
4 3/4's isn't unmanageable; I had 5 in year 12, plus one compulsory non-VCE subject. I have (or had, anyway) shocking organisational skills, and I managed :)
Also, since joining AN, I can't say I've heard very good things about VCE physics *cough* pi *cough*

As far as useful goes: Also consider that taking MUEP gives you university credit, a taste of what university will be like and the opportunity to learn a bit differently/in a fresh way to what you will be in VCE. MUEP would sort of be useful even if it didn't contribute to your ATAR.
That said -- what course are you aiming for? If you want to be a doctor, perhaps Physics would be a good choice because it makes its way onto the GAMSAT (in case you go through the Biomed pathway), and you'd have to bridge Physics in Uni if you wanted to go GAMSAT route.

^solid advice, however:

If you're looking at biomed, you'll cover vce physics (and a bit more) in BMS1031 - Medical Biophysics

Thanks, my mistake :)
