Semester 2 Level 2 Science Subject Help
« on: June 27, 2013, 06:01:12 pm »
+1
I am really struggling to pick a 3rd subject for level 2, semester 2, science. I have asked this question before, but I have more time to think about it again now.

This sem I did:
-Principles of Human Structure (Anatomy)
-Biochemistry and Molecule Biology
-An easy level 1 geography subject
-Breadth subject

Next sem so far:
-Physiology
-Research based physiology
-Breadth
-3rd subject?????

I was thinking of doing the Biochemistry Techniques subject next semester, except it is only offered in semester 1. I probably should have considered that earlier.
I disliked biochemistry, so I don't really want to do the next biochemistry subject. I loved anatomy, if that gives anyone any clue as to what subject I might enjoy.
And I also found biochem quite hard, so if I can swap the hardness, for pure rote learning, then I am happy to do that.
Does anyone have an recommendations? thanks a lot  :D

Whatever do you mean? Techniques in Molecular Science is offered in both semesters.

https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/BCMB20005

I just did that last semester, and it won't be hard for you to pick up after you did BCMB20002. Just make sure you don't mess up the pracs and put some time into the lab/formal reports, keep up with your stuff (only 12 lectures) for the mid sem (4-5 and calculations then) and the exam (35%) and you'll do fine.

If you do that, you can also choose to do PATH20001, only during Semester 2. Not too sure about that, but you need BIOL10004-5, CHEM10003-4, as well as BCMB20002 (and 20005, though the biochem ones can be done concurrently), although you'll need to swap out one of the other subjects for that. Science students only need 4 breadth subjects at least.

Hold on...Can I still register for techniques if I haven't got in on my study plan? Because it is a quota subject...Won't they have already figured out the quota who is allowed to do it?

Well, there are still spaces left and the deadline for registration is July 4th, so you've still got a chance.

Has anyone done PHRM20001 Pharmacology: How Drugs Work?
https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/PHRM20001

I am wondering if this is a really hard subject, or if it is similar difficulty to say, Anatomy and Biochemistry?

What about pathology?

https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/PATH20001

If you were thinking of majoring in Anatomy/Human Structure and Function, that subject^ is a prereq for some of the subjects you could potentially take to make up the major.

Thanks Nubs!! This sounds like a great subject :)
I am actually thinking that I am going to do this one now, I am pretty interested in human disease and that sort of thing!

Just keep in mind, like I told you before, this requires that you take Techniques in MolSci along with it, so you'll need to drop out of one of the other 3 subjects

It says "Students intending to take a major in Pathology must complete (or be concurrently enrolled in)"
I am not going to major in Pathology, so I don't need to do it, do I?

The link that says this is https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/PATH20001

Okk, if it's that way then my bad, though I thought I had issues on the study plan before about it.

I emailed the coordinator since I'm also planning to take on PATH20001 but haven't completed the techniques subject. You will only need techniques if you plan to complete PATH30002.
