I don't like the idea of not being able to delete my own threads...

preview before post

That's not it Mao.

I always preview my posts...

Yes, a handful of new members have deleted their own useful threads, that much is true.
However, haven't the sheer majority of the VN community (myself included) proven that we can be trusted to manage our own threads?
Just a bit disappointing that this should be viewed as the best option...

Agreed, such 'management' will still be allowed, that a member can still lock his/her own thread should he/she deem it has ran its life. Deleting threads however seems to serve no useful purpose, other than to hide one's tracks. This has happened a few times with trolls who have deleted all posts to hide their identity from IP checks.

Endorse thread deletion to be a privelege

Do not endorse post editing to be a privelege: often you just make a mistake or a typo or you reread and your most doesn't make sense or you are answering a question and need to fix something up. Will you create a new post for that?

The latter has been a problem lately.

Whirlpool have been successfully using this rule (no user deletions) and limiting edits to within 2 days of the post date after which they are locked down.

We could try and look at implementing this.
