I am very interested in the study of law;is it possible for me to do units 3 and 4 legal studies without units 1 and 2.DOes the content overlap.

You'll be fine. For the most part, they're different- you may lack some general background knowledge but it's nothing major. I had friends who picked up legal at 3/4 and did well :)

You don't need 1/2 for 3/4. I didn't personally do Units 1/2 legal and I'm doing fine. Most of my cohort also didn't do 1/2 legal either, they went straight to 3/4.
You'll be fine, the only parts you'll be missing out on is an introduction to criminal and civil law which is repeated in 3/4 legal anyway.
