meaning of "applied" in their courses?

in regards to the above 2 courses...what alteration does the a word "applied" do?
i know rmit also has applied science and science
how rmit's applied courses different from the regular ones?
does applied mean more hands on (i.e. practical)?

Did you look what the differences were? One is a 4 year course inclusive of a year of industry placement. The other is a 3 year course.

...but apart from that they're both exactly the same, right?

Essentially yes. You complete the subjects with the students in the 3 yr course; the only difference is your 3rd year comprises of going off and basically "working" for a year.
