To those coming on open day, have questions to ask! Reading brochures and information online is vastly different from asking and talking to current students at Monash, who can give you a more realistic and specific insight into what it's like to study a particular degree or course. Don't be afraid to ask questions, no matter how stupid or silly you think it may be (something I've learnt from when I attended past open days).

^agreed 100%, students unlike some staff members aren't trying to make you students of the uni, they're just being honest and helpful :)

Just don't be that guy...

This was the moment that stood out for me today:

From Monash Open Day in the med dep involving me and a curry mum and her yr9 (or so) son:
Me: So, why do you want to do med?
Yr9: Well, I'm not sure if I even want to do med, I'm also thinking about engineering
His Mum: No, tell him about how you want to study medicine? To become a doctor!
*Yr9 slowly backs away as his mum gives him a very sharp look*

awks.

:(

^ To avoid the catastrophic situation that pi has described above, it's good that you go along with your friends, not your parents if possible.

Otherwise, come and get some freebies. If you head to the BusEco Faculty, you get to join the dark side and have cookies....

Or not...

Damn, that makes me really sad. Hope that guy ended up in a course he enjoys :-\

Also, most of you guys will be at Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences for Med, but don't forget to chill for a bit with the Biomed reps! I have no idea who they are this year, but I can inform you all in advance that they're ridiculously awesome people

"Cookies". Okay mate.

This is the Faculty of Business and Economics' major selling point to students.

I could say 'we teach you to make a lot of money if you get to do IB, but then you will be selling your soul to achieve it.' Do you want people to be greedy and create another GFC?

I think the important message is that in our Faculty, we're not out there just to make money and screw everyone else over, but we are here to share our financial nous and knowledge to other people.

What better proof to show our aims by sharing free stuff with them open day people?

And by free stuff, I mean food.

Therefore cookies. Because I like cookies. And mi goreng.

I'll be one of those people who points you in the right direction when you get lost. (In blue). I'm stationed near the tents at the multi-leveled carpark near the engineering faculty. If anyone needs some specific advice about undergrad engineering course feel free to talk to me. Most of those guys in the Engineering faculty, where you are supposed to get advice about the course are PhD candidates/ lecturers which may have a slightly different view to the course compared to us current undergrads.

I'll have a name tag JinXi (J.X). Not sure if our name will be visible though.

Also, make sure you grab all the freebies you can get hold of :)

Edit: This is in Clayton btw.
