Context: help with introduction

I'm a little stuck on what to write for an introduction.
The prompt is 'Identity is shaped by positive and negative experiences'

So far I have wrote: Experiences play a significant role in shaping an individuals understanding of themselves. Whether these experiences are detrimental or enlightening to the individual, it is ultimately the individuals decision on how they implement these experiences to form their identity. Furthermore, ......

If anyone can help me think of some ideas it would be greatly appreciated and if anyone is willing to give me some feedback on intro that would be good.
