Getting A's

Hi,

Sorry if I put this thread in the wrong place; not exactly sure where it is supposed to go. Also, apologies for my name. My friend signed up using my e-mail as a joke, so I'm stuck with it. P.S was joking in other thread about it being my name. Thanks to anonymous for changing it!

Any who, I'm in the midst of Year 11, and I'm trying to set myself some goals to set myself up for Year 12. I really want to get into UMEP Psychology, in which I've spoken to my career counsellor about, and she was all for the idea, telling me it was a great goal, but didn't offer me much on the topic of reaching my goal.

Currently, I'm doing English, Revolutions, Psychology, Further, Economics and Business Management (3/4) - all of these, with some more concentrated effort, I'll be able to achieve at least an 'A' asides from English.

With English, the highest mark I've gotten all year for an essay I believe is 23/30, which I don't think is all that flash, but my marks currently are about 14/30 for practice context essays. The thing is, I had a sick spell being absent from school a few months ago, and missed out on a large proportion of 'how to write context' and I was told to catch up. I tried going to this learning strategies woman during English, but I wasn't allowed to, and I'm not exactly one for free time, so it is really the only time I can.

But, I feel when I write a context essay, I try an adopt other peoples writing structure, doing a hybrid or expository, but then my teacher has this kind of formulaic writing that she wants us to follow, implementing certain things into our writing structure which I'm completely against, so I just ignore her when she says that, as I prefer a more spontaneous essay as I feel they are more 'from the heart' or original. But yes, I'm in a class with a minority of intelligent people, whilst the large majority can't even spell in their essays, getting 20's and 25's on their essays out of 30, shouting out answers in class, who are more science/maths focused, with English as their weak point. English has been my strong suit out of all my subjects for years, and then as soon as I start begin to take interest and read books, bam, I fail which is making me dwell going to English due to the fact I just hate everything about it.

I have an English Context Essay tomorrow, which I wrote last week but my teacher gave me a year 12 by accident, so I need to rewrite the essay which can be 1 of 6 prompts. This one is worth like 25%, and I'm really worried, because this could be blocking me from achieving my goal of UMEP. :(
