Should I define the gene pool as:

the total number of genes of every individual in a population

                         OR
All the genetic information of every individual in a population

Gene pool is the total set of genetic instructions of a population in a given environment.

That's how I'd define it.

The term population has this covered, lol.

Fe; I just mentioned this because a neap practice paper gave a question on defining gene pool and you had to mention population and still mention 'in a given environment'. But fe though :)

Are the X chromosomes in a female considered homologous?
if yes, does crossing over occur?

Yes to both.
Crossing over also occurs between X and Y

Dendritic cells and macrophages. I haven't come across a question referring to either term before nor have I learnt it at school.

Macrophages you'll cop, dendritic cells no.

Thanks t-rav.
I thought dendritic cells were phagocytes, and considered APCs?

Yeah, you're probably right. They're just never really discussed in the VCE course. They're not even discussed in first year uni biol either, because I'm pretty sure they're a relatively recent discovery (may have been a Nobel in it too actually!).

Yeah, Dendritic cells are APCs.
They're highly specialised APCs found throughout the body, and are able to break down foreign molecules and present them to lymphocytes. -NelsonBiol.
I think there's emphasis on them because Australia's the "world leaders" in dendritic cells research.

Among many other things immune system. That's why we tend to cop it early, because we've made all sorts of advances in that field. Sadly, I've always hated it...hence my lack of knowledge as displayed above.

Dendritic cells are the most important antigen presenting cell, more important than your macrophage!  They typically prime the adaptive T cell response.

FYI: professional antigen presenting cells, there are three!  Dendritic cell, macrophage and the B cell is also an antigen presenting cell!
