Yes.

Take the time to learn how to set up the matrices as it is very common to see a question involving them in an exam.

Depends on how well you want to do. At my school we essentially skipped matrices and Markov chains. We learned the theory, and how to set up transition matrices, but we skipped how to work with them by hand.

Markov processes/chains in general are extremely important in simulation methods as a whole. Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques are at the forefront of current numerical techniques in simulations and probability theory.

Getting a very (diluted) taste of it in methods is a good thing.
PhD @ MIT (Economics).

Interested in asset pricing, econometrics, and social choice theory.

mate.. just coz im asian ;)

haha, but (elaborating on my orignal "ninja" reply) i guess like most things Markov chains are optional.. just like getting 40+ in methods is optional :P

I'm kidding~~ Go get that 99.95 atar, 95atar. (im just assuming since you're on AN that the "99." is a guaranteed already :D )
