LEARNING question

I was doing vcca's 2008 exam 2 paper and I don't understand this question and how they got the answers.

Question 8
Gayle and Luke argued loudly because they both wished to play with the same toy. The noisy argument annoyed
their father. Eventually, their father sent Gayle to her room (against her liking) and let Luke happily play with
the toy. The noise stopped, which pleased their father.
a. In terms of operant conditioning, state what type of consequence was received by
 i. Gayle (Punishment)
 ii. Luke (Positive punishment)
iii. Gayle and Luke’s father (Negative punishment)

How is Gayle's consequence just 'punishment' and the father is 'negative punishment'??

Thank you in advance  :D :D :D :D :D

tbh those last two sound like positive reinforcement (luke's behaviour was rewarded by him being allowed to play with the toy) and negative reinforcement (cos of the removal of the unpleasant stimulus of noise) to me. are you sure those are the answers vcaa gave?  ???

Hey, are you sure you are reading the right solutions?

Is the question you are asking about?
Question 8
Gayle and Luke argued loudly because they both wished to play with the same toy. The noisy argument annoyed their father. Eventually, their father sent Gayle to her room (against her liking) and let Luke happily play with the toy. The noise stopped, which pleased their father.

And the solutions provided by VCAA:
8ai.
Punishment (or response cost)
8aii.
Positive reinforcement
8aiii.
Negative reinforcement

8ai) Obviously, it is a punishment because Gayle was sent to her room against her liking. I think VCAA has said "punishment" OR "response cost" because you could view it as GIVING her unpleasant stimulus or REMOVING the toy from her.
ii) Positive reinforcement -- Luke has been given a pleasant stimulus (the toy).
iii) Negative reinforcement - Removal of the unpleasant stimulus; his children yelling

Just a heads up

For anything VCAA, punishment = positive punishment and response cost = negative punishment
