Hi guys! I have a few questions that I need help with! :D

1) The question asked:
If the reading on the GSR is showing high levels of activity, it can be said that there is:
a) high electrical resistance
b) low electrical resistance
c) no electrical resistance
d) very little sweat

I chose A, however the answer stated B. Why?  :o

2) One of the main limitations of using a thermometer as a method of measuring consciousness is that:
a) they can be inaccurate
b) it's unethical to measure a person's body temperature while they're in an ASC
c) body temperature is less variable
d) changes in body temperature are too great.

I chose A, but the answer is C. Why is my answer not correct? ><

For your first question, it is B because the GSR measures the electrical conductivity of the skin as well as resistance to electrical current. If there is high activity, then the skin is very conductive and hence not so much resistant to the current

for the first one, when we sweat, it increases the electrical conductivity, which in turn reduces the skin's resistance to an electrical current. basically cos the skin is wet, the skin has less resistance to the current, and conducts the electricity easier.
as for the second one, i guess it'd just be because our body temperature has to stay within a very exact range - even in sleep it only drops by about a degree. because there's such little variation in temperature, that can be seen as a limitation.

2) Our body temperature rarely ever changes, and usually stays within a set range. Like Paulrus has said, it only drops about one degrees Celsius during sleep! Thus, temperature is not that variable and is kept at a set level for optimal functioning.

Yes, thermometers can be inaccurate at times. However, in relation to the question, using a thermometer as a method of measuring consciousness would be quite ineffective as body temperature is quite constant. Hence, it's unlikely that you would be able to determine what state of consciousness a person is in by using a thermometer. Other methods would be more suitable.
