The Quiet American Themes, Symbols and conflict....?

Helloo!

I am planning to do TQA on the exam for Context Encountering Conflict. What are some resources or any guides to the book? I must say its one complicated book, I'm reading it for the 3rd time and there something new every time! Basically I just wanna know where conflict actually occurs throughout the book, say with Pyle, Fowler and Phuong. What are the main themes and symbolism used in the book?
There's so many things in this book which i need clarification with, such as why fowler refuses to be called by his Christian name? Fowler's will to accept death rather than lose Phuong? The three characters representing America (youth, seriousness, hope), Vietnam (rise like a phoenix) and Old age/despair.

Thanks
