Tidying up

Just wanted to tie up some loose ends before this year's exam. Just had a few questions to ask you experienced folk, and I'd really appreciate any feedback :)

1. how far do the VCAA go with their consequential marking? say if I get an incorrect numerical value for part a, but continue using it for parts b through to e, i can still get decent bundle of marks? is this consequential marking scheme restricted only to numerical answers? (like, if i accidently give the formula for ethanol instead of propanol in part a, and use ethanol for the rest of the question, have i completely ruined the question in terms of the marks i can get?)

2. writing beyond the line allowance. Is this a problem (as in, will i get marks deducted)? If its only a matter of timing, I dont think writing heaps has ever prevented me from finishing exams beyond the allocated time frame.

Thanks! really appreciate it

1. No idea. I'll leave this one to past students.
2. Writing more than the prescribed lines is definitely allowed, so long as you do not go beyond the defined margins (the chemistry exam is scanned in such a way that all markings beyond the margins will be blacked out). Just make sure the writing is neat and the examiners can follow where the sentences goes without having to put their nose up to the exam script. If the writing is all over the place, the examiners will simply give up and dish out low marks.
