Hey,
Is there a guideline to use a pen for the Further Maths Exam 2?
Or is it your own choice, like using a pencil?

Thanks.

You can use pen or pencil, it's up to you. Personally, I like to use pencil because I can rub out my mistakes :p

HB pencil would be fine. It can get really messy if you use pen in math-based subjects for calculations. I guess you could write written statement types questions in pen (e.g. interpreting the coefficient of determination).

I'd definitely reccomend using a pencil. I always end up finding mistakes and rubbing out my answers, and if you are anything like me, it'd be best to go with the pencil.

You should use Pencil, I like Faber-Castell GoldFaber 1221....
I mean Further is a subject you shouldn't be making a lot of mistakes when doing your working out, but it's best you use pencil to be safe.
If you are doing Networks though, It is vital to use pencil for flow quetsions.

I want to use a pencil but I fear that it could smudge or it won't scan properly. Using a pen for networks SUCKS because I make so many mistakes.

What kind of pencil should I use? I need to buy one soon.

You are allowed to use a pencil. :)

Lala, your Further Maths Exam 2 doesn't get scanned. The original copy that you write on gets distributed to your examiners. :) I'm sure that any pencil is fine to use, but HB Pencils are always safe to use though - No hassles! :)

I just read up that it gets scanned. Now I'm worried about using a pacer.

Source?

A pacer would be fine. VCAA cannot expect students to do Math exams in pen!

Where abouts did you read that?

As far as I know, the Exams that get scanned are those with that note on the side of each page "NO WRITING ALLOWED IN THIS AREA".

BTW, I used a pacer last year for Further and it didn't matter. :)

Yeah, for Further, I don't think they care.

However, they do in Methods. We've been told to write in pen for Methods. =/

I used pencil in all my maths exams, including Methods, and I'm sure it's perfectly fine.

You only have to write in pen when it specifies in the question booklet.
For example, in Economics, at the start of Section B, it says: "Answer all questions in pen in the spaces provided."
And on the cover page of English: "Students are to write in blue or black pen."

So if it doesn't say anything along those lines, using pencil should be fine.
(And it is my recommendation to use pencil for maths and other number-related exams, but it does just come down to personal preference in the end.)
