The location is a big plus, right next to Melbourne Central and the big library ;D

When the uni begins accepting offers, there will be a clearly in ATAR for the course which allows everyone with this ATAR and the prequisites to be accepted right into the university.
Then if there are still spots left, the other people who came don't have the clearly in ATAR are ranked from highest to lowest ATARs.

This is from this thread Academic bonus points?!
but I think the same probably applies to all universities here
As for extra-curricula stuff

Go to Orientation Day and check them out in person, or look them up on Facebook and see how active they are

Accountancy (Professional) at RMIT was one of my choices as well. :o
It was a bit further down the list though. I think it was my 5th preference from memory.

Being in the city is a huge plus, don't like the food on campus? Walk just outside. IF you go to Monash or La Trobe or Swinburne (bit iffy about those last two), you're pretty much limited to the food on campus and everything else on campus too (stationary shops, etc). It's not a huge deal really but its still a nice thing to have.
Also, you can go to the orientation day or you can just wonder around, no one will stop you. They'll probably think you're a student, even if they don't they're really not all that likely to give a shit. Just wander around and take a look, dont go anywhere you obviously aren't allowed (places where most students wouldnt be anyway) and don't do anything suss like go at 11pm in all black, otherwise, you'll be fine to have a peek.

RMIT City Campus is great for me, but some find it pretty boring. One of it's biggest advantages (which some people see as a disadvantage) is that it's located in the city. This typically means you have access to HEAPS of stuff to do on your breaks but also means there's a smaller 'campus culture'. For instance, me and my friends go eat at a new place every tuesday (determined by urbanspoon) and then go to the internet cafe that's located across the road. Personally, I love being able to do things like this during the breaks just because I find talking difficult haha :P The more socially-inclined tend to find that people piss off from class afterwards, so there's not a whole lot of campus culture/spirit. Does that make sense?

It's taken on a case-to-case basis, but RMIT is fairly good interms of admissions. One of my friends from my school bludged English the entire year and got 23 or 22 for his study score. He still got into a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. They look at SEAs very graciously :) There are a few clubs that specialise in extra-curricular activities, however, RMIT is lacks a bit of that campus culture.
