Random Q

1, How do we determine the unit of K?
2, When do we use double arrows and when do we use single arrows for equation writing?

3, Catalysts changes rate but does not affect yield?
4, Do catalysts work spontaneously with the reactants at any condition?
5, When you need to change the equilibrium of a gasous reaction (with different number of gas particles on each side) by altering its pressure, is chaging its volume the only way to succeed?

6, When Sulfuric acid undergoes reaction with calcium phosphate to form superphosphate, what is it acting as?
7, Does standard laboratory condition have to be 1 M, ie. if ur solution is in 1 atm pressure and 25C but not 1 M solution can it still be counted as standard laboratory conditions?

thanks!

1. Use maths, preferably fraction constant. The added powers on top of the fraction minus the added powers on the bottom.
Eg.

2. Always use double arrows for an equilibrium reaction.

4. not necessarily. Consider enzymes, they denature when it's too hot or pH is not right. Sometimes conditions are important, but for most catalysts we use in industry, conditions aren't the biggest concern.

5. correct. Increasing pressure any other way (such as by adding inert gas) would not change anything.

For 5. you can also add an inert gas to the container that will increase the pressure

EDIT: see Mao above (^)

7. SLC = 1 atm and 25C, I don't think it has to be 1M.
