I used violent video games, and discussed how there is ongoing debate, and I also mentioned how the two Columbine shooters were known for playing Doom and Mortal Kombat. I took a different approach for the second part, and used the Uses and Gratification theory. I took more of neutral approach, saying how if someone were to play violent video games purely for entertainment, then the need for entertainment would be received by the audience, not violent behaviour.
I hope I was on the right track with that though, your response sounded way better!

I think both of our answers were pretty spot on to the question, they'll accept so many different responses for that one because it really was pretty flexible depending on everyones interpretation of the question! Well done dude :)

Personally, didn't practice any questions that were like this at all, was quite the test indeed! In general, I would like to think that it went well...

How did you guys handle the question asking about the:
*relationship between a text, audience, consumption and reception?
*"distribution" of social values? (how is that different to representation?)
* and the final media influence question with the extract? I wasn't sure what they really wanted

Chelseagirl:
Relationship between text audience consumption and reception I discussed how audience engagement arises from the nature of a texts genre and an audiences understanding if that genre...the more an audience is aware of codes, conventions, etc the more they are likely to be engaged. Also, the reason for the texts consumption can affect how audiences respond to a narrative. All of these factors impact on the final reception if a film.

Value distribution is very closely related to representation, but values being distributed refers to how they are spread among a variety of texts. Texts distribute values as a way of highlighting discourse. If values are distributed in a similar manner, that speaks highly of the society's belief toward the discourse.

The last question I think was asking about the nature of regulation practise and how it has changed over time especially with regard to the impact of social media on the in effectiveness of regulation today. You needed to discuss the main reasons in support of regulation, against regulation, and link thus to a discussion if how regulation as it currently stands is not always effective because our relationship with the media has changed.

We hadn't discussed consumption and reception, so I went out on a limb there and made it up... From memory, I think I discussed similarities and differences between my texts, then how these combined to interest the audience or something like that. I filled up all the lines, so even if I'm not right hopefully I can still salvage some marks!

I talked about ACMA and the Classification Scheme, and how they work together to protect children, but also allow adults their rights with strengths and weaknesses. I also discussed how it is becoming more difficult to regulate the media because of online piracy, as if a film is banned for sale, it can still be downloaded online.
