Dementia
Your Brain Matters, implemented by Alzheimer's Australia is a program that aims to raise awareness and improve modifiable risk factors to reduce the risk of dementia. . The program provides dementia-related fact sheets on their website which educates people on how to prevent dementia. The program also has a BrainyApp which is a resource that can be used on mobile phones which quizzes people to assess an individual's current risk of dementia. The brainy app also includes a word and memory game to stimulate brain activity and provides suggestions for reducing the risk of dementia. (should i provide more info? e.g. brain health program?)
No that’s fine, unless it was worth like 4 marks or something (which I doubt it be)
Empower individuals and the community
The program empowers individuals and the community with health knowledge and skills to make positive choices towards their health. For example, the online fact-sheets help to educate people and the BrainyApp offers suggestions on how to reduce the risk of developing dementia
I would specifically say that through empowering individuals and the community, this increases knowledge and then go on with what you have said because when people have knowledge they are able to make informed decisions surrounding their health.

For this I would have given examples of what "healthy behaviour choices" you are talking about. So.. using insecticide treated bed nets for Malaria. That's where the third mark came in i guess, just more 'bulk' in your explanation.
Oh i thought it was 3 marks for the health/HD/sustainability, 2 marks for the links, 1 mark for showing how the program promoted sustainable human development/2 marks for describing the program
For Global Health you do not need to talk about Sustainability.

Hey guys I just though I'd pop in here and ask a question that's probably very straight forward and perhaps even answered already but:
Is "access to healthcare" a physical environment or a social determinant? My textbook says its social, but my seminar notes say that it's physical environment so I'm not sure!
Thanks!  :D

It's both. Access to healthcare (geographical location) is a physical environment determinant, where people may be unable to access healthcare because they are in rural/remote areas and too far from the health care centres.

Access to health care (social/cultural factors) is a social determinant, where because of cultural differences or discrimination in society, a certain population group may be unable or not willing to access health care.

Hi smiley! thanks so much for the feedback :) but, i'm sorry to say that i don't quite understand what you're saying

Describe a program that addresses a key issue in developing country and how it improves sustainable human development. (8 marks)

A program called 'Immunise Us' could be provided via multilateral aid to address high under 5 mortality rates (U5MR) in developing countries. The program could provide mobile health clinics which regularly visit rural and remote communities to administer vaccinations for a range of conditions that contribute significantly to mortality rates. Through the provision of vaccinations, communities will be less likely to contract diseases such as tuberculosis or the measles, thus decreasing mortality rates due to preventable diseases. Vaccinated children are more likely to be free of disease and in adequate physical health to go to school, access knowledge and enhance their capabilities. Educated and healthy children also have greater employment opportunities when they are older and a higher income earning capacity, allowing them to seek a higher paid job so that they can access a healthcare and a decent standard of living. Higher incomes allow for greater tax revenue for the government to invest into future immunisation programs to ensure that future generations can also have access to such services for better health and sustainable human development outcomes.
(what type of sustainability is that?)
would i have to state what the key issue was?

Describe a program that dfat could implement to reduce poverty in Cambodia (4 marks)

Harsh question :(

Area Development Program - Cambodia
This program is funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided by DFAT who established the program. It addresses poverty by providing training for individuals, specifically farmers in regards to crop production and management and also the provision of agriculture seeds to cultivate. This allow them to efficiently grow crops and fruits to increase the access of food available for the community thus allowing individuals to reduce the risk of malnutrition and break the cycle of poverty.

I'd usually put it in a paragraph but yeah .. haha
Sustainability
Appropriateness: Addresses the specific needs of the targeted community by addressing food insecurity which is an underlying factor of poverty.
Affordability: The education and agriculture provided to the farmers are free of charge as ODA works to promote opportunities without creating financial barriers thus it is free.
Equity: This program addresses the needs of all people within the population groups as it aims to address poverty in Cambodia. It also provides its education to any individual irrespective of their gender, culture or occupation. (IDK about occupation, what if they are prostitutes lol? ... >.<)

Through the provision of education farmers have increased knowledge thus are more likely to feel good about themselves and have a higher self-esteem in regards to their business (health). The increase in confidence and knowledge encourages farmers to experiment with different seeds which enhances the capabilities and choices to invest in a variety of seeds for crop production (hd). Through the effective crop production, farmers have a higher socioeconomical status which allows economical growth of their country through successive trades and also encourages them to employ others to allow them to have capacity to earn an income for both the current and future generations.

Gaaaahhh.

Isn't that social sustainability? ~ same or improved access to social resources such as health services
I'd include it just to make sure, anyways its kind of addressed when you said it address U5MR in developing countires

Lets tone it down a bit.

HAHAH no i'm not! My friend recently went to cambodia for a world challenge thing to build a school so i keep subconsciously referring to it? x)

I think your answer is really good!

Identify 3 nutrients that act as a protective factor for osteoporosis and explain how. (6marks)

Calcium- is a key mineral found in bones which helps contributes to bone mass to strengthen the bone. Thus, calcium helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis as it increases bone density (?? enough for 2 marks? I didn't know whether to talk about calcium phosphate because then i would be repeating myself?)
Phosphate: Combines with calcium to make calcium phosphate which is a hardening agent for bones. Calcium phosphate ossifies bones to increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
Vitamin D: allows the absorption of calcium phosphate from the small intestine into the bones to add bone mass and promote healthy bones, thus acting as a protective factor for osteoporosis

It's actually phosphorous, not phosphate.

Hey just wondering how detailed our NHPA programs need to be

e.g. for diabetes

Life! Taking action on diabetes is a lifestyle behaviour course provided by the Victorian state government to people at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The course provides education for those people on how to reduce the risk of diabetes by encouraging lifestyle changes. The program also has free educational posters and brochures online that can empower people to reduce their risk of diabetes. Through mass media advertising, the program also aims to raise awareness about the risk factors of diabetes.

or would we have to specify it's 'goals' and be more specific?

Life! Taking action on diabetes program is a Victorian state government funded strategy that aims to reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes among those at risk. It is aimed at victorians over the age of 50 and all aboriginal and torres strait islanders. the program delivers lifestyle behaviour change course to 250000 victorians who are at a high risk of developing diabetes. the course involves 6 group sessions over an 8 month period that educated individuals about type 2 diabetes and behavioural changes required to reduce their risk. The program also promotes awareness of diabetes prevention through a mass media campaign (print/radio/tv).  The program also has an informative website that provides resources and education to individuals and health professionals in regarding the prevention of type 2 diabetes.

would the first answer be okay? because to be honest, i'm not so keen on memorising 9 programs in that much detail  :o :-X :-\

Being specific is good but don't overdo yourself, aslong as you include the key reasons like - In Zambia 2/5 individuals have HIV/AIDs , you could just say a large portion of the population suffer from HIV/AIDs.

Generally you look at the marks , If the question is too broad , then write all you can remember but keep in mind of time management

And yes it is phosphorus , your getting mixed up with the calcium phosphate. It makes when phosphorus combines with calcium which makes the stuff that ossifys the bones .

I'll pass for the question now , I'll answer it when I get home :)

Can someone clarify when it says why is ________ a NHPA that this answers are sufficient :
Significantly contributes to the overalls burden of disease of Australians
Incur high direct , indirect and intangible costs

I find myself quite reluctant when writing this answer cause I feel like it's too broad
