HCl dissolved in water.

Water is the solvent.

HCl is the solute.

HCl dissolved in the water as a whole is the solution.

In other words, solute : the dissolved matter in a solution.

Solvent: a liquid substance capable of dissolving other substances.

solution: a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.

Solute: a substance (usually in lesser amount) dissolved in another substance.
Solvent: a liquid in which substances (or solutes) are dissolved forming a solution.
Solution: A type of homogenous mixture in which the particles of one or more substances (the solute) are distributed throughout another substance (the solvent).
