Okay so according to you guys I'm a JAFFY, well I hope to be in 2014. But I have a few questions as many keen first years usually do.. so

1) Whats Bachelor of Commerce with the double accounting and finance major like? As in, is the course itself boring or interesting?
2) How many days would I be at uni?
3) What are the career outcomes?
4) Is university in general just a difficult pain in the ass?
5) What is micro and macro economics? :/

Thanks in advance although you probably hate me already :P

1. Accounting is split into 2 major topics:
       - financial accounting - all about remembering accounting rules and standards and is mind numbingly tedious.
       - management accounting - essentially management with some accounting costing thrown in - bit more interesting as you can BS a bit in exam and assignments.

Finance at undergrad level is a bit of applied mathematics (mostly just plugging numbers into formulas); as well as introducing to you all the financial equipments, rules and tactics used in the financial world (so a lot of theory).

2. Depending on when lectures are held - you can squeeze everytjing into 2-3 days. I managed to squeeze it into 1 and a half days one semester.

3. Look at the handbook plus internet forums - plenty of into out there.

4. It is probably the most freedom you will ever enjoy in your life.

5. Micro - the study of individuals firms involved in producing goods and services; and how they allocate resources to produce them efficiently and in a rational way.

Macro - the study of the WHOLE economy and how the different firms and consumers act together to affect the economic health of the country (ie. GDP, unemployment, inflation). Plus how the govt or central bank affect consumer/firm decisions.

Thanks very much, I appreciate it :D
So overall, I assume you're doing the course or know about it, would you recommend it? Do you like what you do?
And also, if I do the diploma of languages, would it be an extra day at uni?

Im in a unique situation because i am a mature age student who had been to uni before. Therefore, I knew what to expect and had specific goals in mind before I started my b.comm - so I knew what to expect - so "enjoyment" is subjective.

A dip.lang does not require you to do an extra subject per semester - you still study 4 subjects per semester (so depending on how lectures/tutorials pan out - you theoreically can attend uni or the same amount of days per week) - but it adds an extra year on to your degree.

You get what you put in. You put in the work in terms of study an participating in uni events/ working PT in a commerce field - and the opportunities are endless.

I find it rewarding; but im in a different boat (as a mature age student who came in with a plan/goal in mind vs. a hs grad who has little idea of what they like). Everyone sees it differently.
