Moderation for detailed studies?

My teacher told me that the detailed study section of the exams were moderated based on difficulty.

Is this true?

(I can't trust her knowledge as she has not taught VCE Physics before)

So then why are there detailed studies? Purely to have a choice?

and they don't account for the relative difficulties of the questions, at all?

So choose what you find easiest, yes?

before the detailed studies became multiple choice, yes they were moderated.
that was the main reason why it became multiple choice (so its supposed to be fair across all detailed studies and so it would stop people doing more than one detailed study - although some people still have attempted this :P)

But you have to select one on your MC answer sheet ...

In a perfect world there would be some form of moderation but don't think there is. A lot of guys doing Further Electronics lost key marks (on that relatively easier exam) because the FE MC were a bit tricky.

yes, but according to my physics teacher, some people tried to answer more than one detailed study on their answer sheet by "colour coding" what answers were for what detailed study, even if they overlapped on the sheet :P

feel sorry for them sort of (if they didn't know the instructions properly it sort of should have been explained to them beforehand I feel)

u can't moderate cause they're all different...it's just common knowledge

That would be the whole point of moderation, to account for the differences.

It might not be completely fair but a way of doing it maybe would be to compare the spread of results in each of the detailed studies with the corresponding spread of the students in the two compulsory ones. But that's also got a load of problems. I think the current system will continue, and is generally OK. The detailed study parts tend not to be too difficult from practice paper experience.
