[Resolved] Has the study design updated?

Hi,

The study design hasn't been updated since 2010, is that correct?

I'm going crazy; most of my subjects have been updated and our school's booklist has told us to buy older editions of the books.

Is this book then suitable for the current study design?

Thanks,
Stewart

Hi,
From this document (http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/mathematics/mathsstd.pdf), it says the study design's last update was in Feb 2010 and it has been extended until 31 December 2015. The book you are looking at should be within the study design but please remember that the Ti Nspire has been updated several times over the years (from 1.7 in around 2010 to OS 3.0) so features and menu would change. (like jumping from Ios 3.0 to Ios 7 haha)

Hi there,

Thanks for that!

I don't actually have one of those calculators, I've got a Ti-84 Plus so it doesn't really make any difference. My maths teacher sold it to me. Pretty sure it's well out of date haha

Thanks again,
feels so much better when someone confirms something.

I'm already going crazy and it hasn't even started yet.

Cheers,
Stewart

You should try and get onto a TI nspire CAS (ideally the CX version).

(just updated mine to 3.6.w/e for VCESS, it can really do heaps!)

Hello pi,

I'm only doing Further Maths, do you think by keeping my TI-84 Plus I'll be at a disadvantage?

I am hesitant to upgrade as my textbook matches my calculator (there's always google though) and I spent like $100 on the combination.

Cheers,
Stewart

I can't talk specifically about Further as I did the other two maths, but having the new CAS is an advantage. See how you go with SACs and such, and if you're having trouble then maybe consider a change :)

What does your school use? I strongly suggest you buy the calculator that the school uses, so if you have any problem with it, such as how to plot a particular graph, you can ask the teacher for help. At my school, they use Classpad for methods and specialist maths, but I bought Ti Nspire instead because many private schools use it and I didn't like the touch screen on the Classpad. But once I got problem with my calculator and no one at school could help me. It took me a while (including speaking to Texas Instruments staff several times on the phone) to get my problem fixed.

because of the way my school is structured I often have to figure stuff out by myself anyway and have become quite good at it. Not due to the teachers, but it would be a disadvantage if I waited until they could help me. It's kinda like distance ed.

Thanks for all your help, I've purchased an nspire CAS touchpad calculator off eBay. Thought it was a good price at $70 inc. postage.

Should be loads better than my Ti-84.

Oh and I have a Ti-84 Plus for sale if anyone's looking to buy one. haha

Many thanks,
Stewart
