Hi
I was thinking about going to TSFX masterclasses for 1/2 MM this year.

Are they worth it? Are TSSM or NEAP better?

Thanks

It really depends on what type of student you are.

Try answering these questions first -

1. What type of student are you? (Do you enjoy studying or do you need to get pressured before studying?)

2. What score range are you aiming for? (35+? 40+? 45+?)

3. How hard are you prepared to work for this?

4. Do you prefer better teaching or better material (if you get what I mean).

45+ raw score guaranteed (or 100% refund) for 2022 Methods & Specialist (other subjects also available - classes for all) register now!

Also hiring excellent Methods, Chemistry, Physics, Biology + Specialist tutors with a passion for excellence - PM me!

We also now support Chemistry, Physics and Biology!

I dont think it would be necessary.
Unless you are struggling... just work through the questions in the textbook and you will be more than ready for 3/4 Methods.

I went to TSFX for Methods masterclasses this year and benefited from a second perspective on the VCE course.

Taking part in the program allowed me to consolidate my understanding of the concepts rather than rote-learn, especially in areas such as differentiation and probability.

Using the books, trial exams and online resources were also really helpful for exam preparation for writing up a bound reference and for regular revision.

Most importantly, my teacher at TSFX prioritised CAS usage more than my day school and thereby helped me save much time on SACs and the end-of-year exam.

Perhaps an option is to attend the summer school lectures to have a taste and feel for TSFX's lecture-teaching style?

All the best!

I'm probably in the same year as you are, except i'm doing 3/4 this year, so here's what I did for 1/2.

I tried NEAP and TSFX, not TSSM though.

Here's a summary of the benefits of each (or so I found):

TSFX: Mediocre lecturing/teaching, but superb materials (they have a plethora of exercises and abundant resources for you to perform at your peak. I did around half of what I received, ended up with a score in the lower quartile of the class, but when I did all of it and reviewed through it thoroughly in conjunction with the work provided from school, I managed to get a median-upper quartile score in the class, and that's when you take in the fact that my class is the top one in the year level).

Material-wise: recommended, Teaching-wise: not so (not bothering to attend any masterclasses this year)

NEAP: Smartstudy guides are pretty decent, lecturing is more solid than TSFX (ofc i only had one teacher so this isn't a wide coverage on the place itself, more my experience).

If you need pressure, attending any of the classes would be a good idea. However, if you can pressure yourself (like what i tried to do towards the end of 2013), just get the materials and learn them. They're excellent and very thorough!

Good luck with 1/2 Methods!

P.S In contrary with what plenty of people say about 1/2 not mattering, it forms a very important base for 3/4 (you'll see when you get there) and it is also crucial to learn the knowledge well!
