Repeat methods for the 2nd time?

I completed math methods and further maths last year in year 11. My initial thought was to prioritise further as it is the easier subject and have methods in my bottom 2 (doing spesh this year). I ended up not doing as well as I wanted and my methods ended up scaling higher that my further. I didn't put much effort in methods, only completing 10 practice exams with not much preparation compared to further. I never knew methods could scale this high so that made me think about repeating it this year while I'm in year 12. Is this a good idea or is it a waste of time and should I just focus on my other subjects?

Same as you, doing spesh and repeating methods. Haven't done further though. I really regret not working hard enough for methods as it scaled rediculously high this last year x(

I think you are misunderstanding the nature of scaling. Note that the only reason why the scaling was so comparatively high last year in methods was because of the difficulty of the exam and because the cohort didn’t do well in it because of that exam. Just because the exam last year was difficult does not mean this year’s methods exam will be similarly difficult – in fact on the contrary, VCAA have a tendency to make the year after a hard exam easier in comparison. It’s rare to see two comparatively hard papers in 2 years in a row.

It’s probably not a good idea to repeat methods simply because you assume the scaling will be higher based on last year. However, if you believe you can do better raw in the subject than by all means go ahead.
