TSFX Masterclass

Hi (First post ever)
I'm considering enrolling in the TSFX masterclass for chemistry. I have already been to the summer school lecture and I was able to absorb new knowledge pretty well with Sarah, but Irene was a rush. Considering I flunked chemistry 1/2 (super lazy) and I want to do really well with Chem, is it worth my time?

Hi,
Wow we attended the same lecture! Totally agree, Irena was such a rush, not only for Chem but also for Methods. I attended TSFX Chem 1/2 Master Class last year, what happens is I reckon the notes in Master Class can be slightly more detailed than the notes in headstart lecture and you are given a trial exams book with solution to practice at home. Apart from that, the teacher just quickly reads through the notes with the class, not so much explanation or details and jumps straight to examples. However, obviously, I think if you can re-read those notes at home and actually put effort in studying, TSFX can be a pretty big help. Probably give TSFX 7/10. All the best for your study!

actually that would be a bad idea, you already have the notes from Unit 3 Chem, so it would be a better use of your time and money to review those notes on your own, and if you don't understand a certain concept, question etc.. hire a good tutor. As far as I know those master classes are very gimmicky, saying they are voted like number one in Australia, when really they survey a select group of students who do the voting. The classes at tsfx will essentially be like going to a second school, where your packed into a class of about 10-15 students, so there won't be much specialized attention to address your individual needs and concerns. Do you really want to put yourself through that? I would only recommend you go if the teachers at your school are inadequate to teach you the subject, or you feel like your not learning anything, in which case it wouldn't be that bad of an idea to go. However if your struggling to understand the concepts, or answer Questions, than a personal tutor would be more beneficial. Probably the best time to go to tsfx is if you have finished all coursework  from school and really want to consolidate your understanding, in which case the end of year lectures are the best option. On top of which those lectures are very costly, i think about $600+ from about 2 hours for 10 weeks, and a few more hundred dollars for the extension classes, and i heard that all they do is essentially go through the notes they provide you(probably similar to the one you have already received) and go through a few examples before setting you homework. i've had friends who go there and they said that most of the notes covered can be found in your textbook anyway, so what your also paying for basically a condensed version of your textbook, does that seem appealing to you? So in summary i would stay clear from those weekly lectures if possible, just overall i think if you have the money and too lazy to study for yourself, then by all means go, but remember there are many other resources out there besides highly advertised companies who's main priority is to make money.
