My maths isn't the great!  I'm doing methods however and i had a a look at the further exam and i suck at those worded questions so if i did the exam now id struggle… Anyway if i get through methods averaging c's etc can i do further maths without units 1 and 2?  And do well?

i was also in your position last year, more or less during the same time in summer hols and i can relate to you perfectly. Like you, i also had a look at the further exams (at that time) and found i did not get anything. But really, thats to be expected UNLESS you have finished the entire further course in that time period. During the year i found the content pretty easy to grasp and had a pretty good understanding of the concepts. That being said, you have a whole 10 months to learn the course inside out. I did further without doing 1/2 and did pretty okay i guess.

So does methods and further compliment each other?

Not really sure as I have not completed methods, but I think they overlap a bit in probability of methods (someone correct me if Im wrong)

At my school, I heard of many experiences where people really enjoyed picking up Further 3/4 and skipping Further 1/2 entirely, and those who chose Further 1/2 always told me about how relatively unchallenging it was (obviously this is subjective) and should have instead went ahead with 3/4 from the beginning. Blatantly it is up to your own discretion, perhaps you should consult your previous Maths teacher and ask him/her on their opinion as well.

I picked up further 3/4 without doing 1/2 last year and I did fine.

Most will have a much easier time understanding the content in further than the content in methods.
vce:

2014: Physics [50] | Specialist | Accounting | English Language || ATAR: 99.70 + Australian Student Prize!

Yea but you got 50 for both methods and further which is great!  But my maths isn't as good as yours realistically I'm looking at a 30+raw for methods, alright so e.g i average a B for methods this year from handwork do you recommend i do further?  The thing is it will be my 6th subject and my lowest scoring one so i don't want to devote to much time to it if i get like a 30-35 for further i look at it as and extra 3.5 points towards my atar, do they kind of correspond?

I would recommend you doing further. Same as you my methods marks isn't really good at all and I'm averaging about a B in my sacs and stuff. If you can score okayish in methods, I'm sure you'll do better in further. Afterall you have nothing to lose right?

I did methods 3/4 this year, but i am repeating. I was never good at maths and i found my self stuggling sometimes in understanding the concept, but i can say it gets much easier overtime. I am more of a science/eng student than maths.

So why not you?
