I've started reading the legal book because I feel it's the subject I need to do the most work in and it's all going in one ear and out the other. I feel like I'm not learning much/anything and that I'm wasting my time not absorbing anything.

I think it's because there's so many new words and concepts that I'm unfamiliar with (as I'm picking it up and don't know much about the legal system in my general knowledge).

Does anyone have any recommendations or other ways I could learn the info? I'm gonna struggle if i don't.
I mean, it interests me and I look at the book and go 'oh cool, I wanna learn about that', but most of the technical stuff isn't sticking.
Already feeling overwhelmed by it :P

Notes always help me when in comes to study.
But not just taking notes out of the textbook and writing them down.

I would always do tables for like strengths and weaknesses of a topic. Or using a table for various cases you need to learn with various headings.
Because there is so much content in Legal you really need to break down each topic (I did it by SAC topics) into tiny topics and work from there. Work out what the essential definitions, what cases and examples you need to know and other general info on separate pages. Later on next year if you wished you could then condense all your notes into say 1 or even 2 pages for each topic of all the essential info.

Hope that helps.

Ok well firstly, take it slow as you haven't really been absorbed to much of the content yet :)
I totally understand what you mean by some stuff not 'sticking'- basically to overcome this I broke the content down and tried to go through it that way, using the VCAA study design dot points to help. Also, there are some useful YouTube videos that may help explain concepts, so try listening/watching them. I also had th A+ Notes which really helped to explain legal concepts in a more concise manner. Hopefully if you take on board these suggestions they'll help! :)

And of course as michak said, notes are really helpful as well. By making your own notes, you kind of help yourself to understand the content along the way which is quite helpful.

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask :)
Good luck with legal!

This might sound ridiculous and stupid but watch tv shows revolving around the legal system.

Although 'Suits' is an american show, it really helped me, it gave me interest in the subject and i was able to apply terms into the show.

.............. Sounds ridiculous, i know.

All the advice helped heaps! Thankyou!

Yeah I've found from psych last year those types of tables helped. Will do them again this year. I'm planning to have the study design out whenever I'm studying. I hope it's a good idea :P

It's weird because despite being overwhelmed I just want to go back and read more.
I've been looking for A+ Legal notes but I'm yet to find one. I'll keep looking.

I have found one YouTube channel (Tim Macdonald?) that has a lot of info and I don't mind listening to him.
 Any other channel suggestions?

I definitely will ask questions if I need to. AN is such a great resource with so many awesome people :P

Not strange at all! I'll check it out.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Jpbooks.com.au  definitely has copies at full price. Alternatively, you can try going to their shop at Hawthorn or try google.

A+ notes is probably a more superior book than most (my school had it on their booklist); however, personally I did not use it at all. This is because the book summarises the whole textbook (Justice and Outcomes) because the author of A+ notes (Michelle Humphreys) is a writer of the Justice and Outcomes textbook. So basically you are not missing out on any content if you don't buy the book. That being said, the book has some exam-style questions at the end of each chapter, with an excellent marking scheme so if you are really eager for extra resources, you should definitely buy it!

I don't live anywhere near there :P

The textbook on my booklist was Making and Breaking the Law. So I'll still buy it :P

Making and Breaking the Law is a really good textbook; some of the examples are better than the Justice and Outcomes textbook. I used it to prepare for some of our SACs!

Just start with a glossary. Write down every legal word you don't immediately know, and work out what it means. The textbook and the SD will both start to make more sense.

When I watched Suits, I would always have to pause it throughout the first season and Google random things they said, and that really did help :D
VCE: English, Health, Legal, Psych, Further, Chem
2015: Arts/Law @ Monash

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.

Woot! Moorabbin Campion buddies!
I'd definitely recommend the Legal Studies A+ Notes Book. The textbooks have a lot of unnecessary information while the A+ notes book contains only the stuff from the study design that you NEED TO KNOW. I didn't really touch my textbook at all last unless our teacher set specific questions. Get the A+ book and read through Unit 3 AOS 1 maybe once or twice to just get an overview of what you'll be learning. Make a mental note of what stuff you think you may need help in understanding. I always tried to stay a few study design points ahead of my class and it definitely helped.
