Hi everyone!
Can I please get some feedback on the two pathways?

what do you mean by the standard pathway? what are you planning on majoring in?
don't take the bioengineering pathway under biomed unless you're actually interested in being unemployed forever a bioengineer.

Listen to scribble she knows what she is talking about!
2012: Biology [below expectations]
2013: English [below expectations], Chemistry [results pending way under expectations], Methods [below expectations-but happy], specialist [happy], physics [happy]

I wouldn't pick my subjects based on marks. Read the handbook entries for the subjects and see which you think sounds more interesting/what might come in handy in the future.
you'll probably fail to see the point in taking calc2/linalg as its designed to build foundations for engineering/math/physics students. the content isn't taught with any biological context. math for biomed on the otherhand is obviously made for biomed students and they would have kept that in mind when designing the course.

with that said, math for biomed sounds painfully dry to me, whereas i loved learning the content from linalg.

I received 40+ for methods and spesh too and I found the level of difficulty of both stats and maths to be reasonable. If you keep up to date then they should be easy H1s since it does seem like you have an aptitude for maths. Tip: stats assessment is slightly easier in 1st semester since computer tests were both take home rather than one computer test done in the computer lab. I know people who did calc 2/lin algebra pathway and I definitely don;t think it's easier than the standard pathway

Stats is probably the easiest "maths" subject you'll do out of the Bioeng and regular stream. It's quite literally just plugging in numbers (not even kidding). Many students complain about it being dry and boring, which is the main problem. Besides there is a 20 mark buffer on the exam so you could get 100/120 and you receive 100% of the marks that are allocated to the exam. I guarantee that if you do most of the questions on the book you will certainly get H1 (a very high one probably).

Maths for Biomedicine doesn't seem to be that hard. Haven't done Calc 2 or Linear Algebra but I imagine it won't be more difficult.
2012 ATAR: 99.20
2013-2015: Bachelor of Biomedicine (Microbiology/Immunology: Infections and Immunity) at The University of Melbourne
2016-2019: Doctor of Medicine (MD4) at The University of Melbourne

Thanks for your kind support Shenz0r!
I am doing standard pathway anyway. I just wanted to hear the other side ;)

Why not pick the bioengineering one? You can still do medicine, dentistry etc but it has more maths subjects so if u like maths, wouldnt u take the bioeng pathway?
2012: Further [40]
2013: Maths Methods [44]   Specialist [39]   English [35]   Physics [41]   Chemistry [37]
ATAR - 97.80
2014-2016: Bachelor of Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne

You can. It's just personal preference. If you want to do more maths, just do bioengineering :)

But why was scribble so adamant about not doing bioeng in biomed, you arent forced to do bioeng as a career anyway :?
