This may seem like a stupid question, but I can't seem to figure it out: When do you not have to be at Uni? Like where all the exams are and SWOT Vac, etc. in that space between Sem 1 and 2, when's the 'holiday' range? Or is there no holiday range D:

If that's too confusing, my real question is, would it be possible to go to Comic-Con in San Diego if I go to Monash in 2015, 16, etc.

Thank you!
VCE: English, Health, Legal, Psych, Further, Chem
2015: Arts/Law @ Monash

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.

University is all about independence and self-management, so you never really have to be at uni. However, classes run throughout both semesters and it would be a pretty bad idea to skip those!

Generally, the year runs as such:

Start of S1 --> Mid-semester/Easter break (I have no idea when Easter is each year, so I'm not sure if the two are tied together) --> End of S1 (Week 12) --> SWOTVAC, there are usually no classes during this period so people usually only come to uni to study --> Exams, which will either be at Clayton or more likely at Caulfield Racecourse.

Similar pattern for S2, interrupted by a mid-sem break. There is a ~3-4 month break between S2 and S1, depending on when your exam finishes; Uni will always begin in the first Monday of March.

As noted above, there are some public holidays that are observed by the university, although most are not.

If that's too confusing, my real question is, would it be possible to go to Comic-Con in San Diego if I go to Monash in 2015, 16, etc.

Absolutely no idea, but assuming that this event does run during the teaching period, it's entirely up to you as to whether you miss some classes to go overseas. It's all about balancing your leisure period with the necessity of being in classes; personally, I would advise that uni comes first, but it's an individual decision :)

Holidays: Over summer (summer holidays), in the space between Sem 1 and Sem 2 (winter holidays), SWOTVAC.
There's also a one week break during each semester.
You don't have to go to uni during the exam period either - you just have to show up on the days you have exams.

I wouldn't plan an overseas trip that occurs during semester or the exam period. If you miss assessment due to overseas travel, you're not going to be given a chance to reschedule, and it'll affect your results.

But you're fine to organise a trip during summer or winter holidays, or the break during either semester.
