Need help with these two questions...please help!

The distance between two towns is 'a' km. Fred leaves town A at the same time Ann leaves town B. Fred has to walk to B and Ann to A. Fred walks at p km/h and Ann walks at q km/h. At what distance from A will they meet?

There are two mixtures of wine and water, one which contains twice as much water as wine and the other three times as much wine as water. How much must there be taken of each mixture to fill a litre jug such that there is an equal amount of wine and water in the jug?

Thanks!

For the second question:
Let the amount of wine=x and the amount of water=y. In the first mixture: the ratio of wine to water is 1:2. In the second mixture: the ratio of wine to water is 3:1. We can express this as 3x=4y. In order to find the amount of each to be poured into a litre jug in millilitres: x+y=1000. Solve to get x=4000/7 mL and y=3000/7 mL. Hopefully this is correct..

I'll do the first question tomorrow - too sleepy Zzzzz
