Whose Reality Prompt: "Reality is what others want us to believe."
I think this prompt implies that there is a fixed perception of reality that should not be wavered, flouted, questioned or challenged. We then behave like robots and abide by the conventions of society, without ever putting a toe across the line, in fear that what we know will crumble before us. However, this trepidation is mitigated and passive, since we don't dwell on the 'what-if's' and the consequences of these 'what-if's'. We prefer to stick to what we know, and what we feel comforted by, in spite of the monotony that this brings us.
When we wake up in the morning to go to school or work, everyday like a routine, we don't really think why we have to or whether we want to. In our cosmopolitan, modernised, Western civilisation, we've come to terms with the fact that going to school is mandatory. Its become a habit. In a similar way, a distinct, rather languid perception of reality has been drilled into us. We all know, subconsciously at the very least, that we will be taken to task if this version of reality that has been carefully shaped over the years, is rebelled against. We will have to endure punitive measures or be the victims of negative reinforcement; both psychological techniques that are associated with abominable feelings. As a result, the majority of us don't bother with challenging the status quo. This is evident in George Orwell's "Animal Farm", where the livestock were submissive to the pigs. In this same way, authority today, in the form of politicians and other judiciaries, shape what we can and cannot do, like some sort of legal binding or contract. Our conduct in public transport, on the roads, in shopping centres, in Australian Rules Football even, screams propriety. And perhaps this is for the better, since it prevents our society from becoming barbarian. On what would we pride ourselves if we were foolish enough to descend to the mediocrity of the middle ages? There is every need to advance with the passing hour, which then stands to reason that a uniform perception of reality is necessary.
^ just one perspective.
In other paragraphs you might write about the consequences of not following a fixed reality, then you might write about how there is no absolute reality because reality is just a bunch of different interpretations.
