Got a terrible score for first 3&4 SAC.

My sac mark was ranked 3rd but I'm really disappointed to be honest. My teacher's an examiner so she marked me down for the silliest reasons.

I honestly just feel like giving up. Is it normal to perform terribly at first? I'm so angry at myself.

Chin up. To be honest, I think you have an unhealthy perspective on this all. It's not the end of the world, and I cannot see how getting 3rd in your cohort is a terrible score. It's a great score  ;D
Theres plenty of sacs throughout the year to improve your ranking. (haha, esp in biol)
Sacs are designed to help you improve throughout the year so that you will be ready for the exam.

Why on earth do you feel like giving up? Use this score as motivation!

edit: you mention that your teacher marked you for the silliest reasons? TIP: Have faith and trust your teacher (this applies to all teachers unless they seriously don't know what their doing)  because she knows best (LOL she's an examiner). Don't be complacent. Make sure you know exactly why you lost those marks and learn from it.

Isn't it only bad if you're ranked 3 at the end of all the sacs?

Thank-you very much for your feedback! I do agree with you :) I understand that this was the first sac but I was a bit disappointed to be honest--there's always room for improvement :)

But I'll definitely consider that -- I think I got a bit too emotional yesterday upon receiving the results :P

LOL don't worry too much about your first SAC! As others have stated already, there's plenty of time to improve since there's a lot of SACs for Biology (not sure how many your school does but I'd believe it to be around about 8-ish).
And don't forget that your SAC marks are moderated towards the end with your end if year exam by VCAA too (since the end of year exam contributes 60% of your total SS for Biology) but keep up the good work nerdmmb! :D

lol new to AN - bare with me

3rd!! How can you upset about that ranking?? However, if that's still not sufficient for your liking, why don't you see what the first ranked students are doing different to you? Also, if your score was bad, why don't you aid the entire class since your cohort will boost your marks up at the end of the year. Im sure being in the top three, there is some pressure from the teacher on you lot to help your fellow students.

But in regards to support, go back and ask your fellow students for help (no one looks bad asking for help) and ask them what you can do differently to help your own self out.
Also if you don't mind me asking, what did you receive for your first mark? You see, i'm doing biology too (a school in Pakenham) and for my first sac which was on osmosis in sultanas, i got first rank with 94%. Now I'm pretty happy with that mark (was unexpected) but I do think it was a fluke.

Whoops probably should have said SAC grades rather than marks LOL. Say if your cohort for Biology is pretty strong then your SACs might be harder than other schools. If your SAC mark is around B's or C's but you score an A+ on the end of year exam then those SAC grades will be boosted up since VCAA know that your SACs are hard so moderation occurs here. Of course rankings do matter but if you're in a school with a strong cohort then I think rankings wouldn't matter as much (maybe not near the upper range but more so in the middle range imo).

I might have that slightly wrong though since I don't exactly know the structure of Biology but I'd imagine it to be roughly like that.

If rank 5-10s can get a 50 in bio, there's absolutely no reason that you can't.

Keep working hard and don't let the latest setbacks deter you!

And.. don't follow me, i'm on ATARnotes and i've got two SACs in the next two days :3

A kid at MHS was ranked 50+ and he still managed to pull a 50.

Wow really, so it states SAC's are not so important. I feel slightly less depressed after a poor first 2 sacs

I dunno about the rank 50 into 50 study score, but I know a family friend who was ranked around 30-40ish, got FULL marks for his methods exam 1&2 (generally around 1-3 people in the state get that every year) and ended up with a 49. Mind, i'd love to get a 49.

A bad SAC result shouldn't deprive you of the top scores, but it'll certainly be a factor, something that can stop you from getting the best score you can possibly get.
