"This series of popular lectures, specifically designed to cover the year 11 and 12 VCE Study Design, is back again for 2014. The lectures, of about 1 hour duration, are given by outstanding research physicists from various research institutions. They are designed to clarify selected topics in the VCE-physics study design, and to broaden the understanding of the associated physics concepts.

Dr Max Thompson will discuss a few of the enduring misconceptions that some students studying physics at VCE level, bring to the classroom. The way in which these misconceptions tend to confuse their understanding of physics will be discussed, and how teachers might best rectify them will be mentioned."

Sorry if someone has already posted this, but it looks really helpful for all you VCE Physics students :P

It was good but for for basic misconceptions,  for example a regular person that would never think in a physics standpoint in everyday life events.

yes i agree, the people form our physics class that went were higher achieving students that wanted to do really well, where as the people who probably would benefit more from it didnt bother going.

Does anyone know when the next lecture is?
I recall him saying that it would be starting again in may with nuclear physics.

It was alright for someone like me but if you already have a good understanding of physics already it would be boring.
The first lesson was about the tides, which was really quite good. Because they broke down all the relevant physics involved with the motion unit in VCE Physics 3&4.
Then astrophysics lesson was more so like an overview of astrophysics, led by some world renowned astrophysicist. (forgot her name ironic isn't it)
The most recent one of misconceptions were more aimed towards people who have never done physics or thought in a physics mindset, as they focused more on how and where forces are acting in simple systems, and general things about acceleration. Which did clear a few things for me, especially when it comes to tension.
