Has anyone had any experience with any intensive subject over the summer/winter/September break? What did you think of it?
I was looking at taking EDUC20076 AUSLAN and Visual Communication this July.

Love intensive subjects! It's good to get a whole subject out of the way in a short period of time. Plus, then you can take one less subject during normal semester.

I've done/doing Experimental Marine Biol (summer intensive) which was a 1 week field trip where we had to run our own study. Then we were given the rest of semester to write up our lab report.

AUSLAN seems like a really popular intensive this winter. Lots of my friends are doing it.

Any other ideas?

I did forests in a global context last year and it was amazing! The content was actually quite interesting and the assessment was easy!

What counts as "intensive"? Do you just mean any non-semester subject?

I'm a second year BSc and did Accounting Reports and Analysis (ACCT10001) over the summer at the start of this year.

I'm struggling with my science stuff, but I found it quite enjoyable despite the entire course being squished into 6 weeks. Not sure if it's because I only had to focus on one subject, or if it's because Commerce is my secret calling. :P

In general I highly recommend doing a subject over the break, you'd be surprised how well you can do despite investing very little of your time into doing it.

I cannot find any winter ones that I think I would do well in, but can highly recommend Painting Techniques, which I completed over the summer. It is beautifully taught, highly practical (a nice balance to more abstract, textbook-based subjects), and no background in art is assumed. Lots of biomed, science, and environments students excelled without any prior knowledge or technique.

Edit: And it is offered in June and semester 2.

However Painting Techniques is already full. I think I emailed over a month ago and it was already full then.. no idea when they first started taking enrolments for it.

It definitely would be because while the subject itself is only taught for a week, you're given almost 3 weeks to construct a portfolio. However, it's a really great choice for subsequent years, especially third year. Though as there is a very restricted quota, others may want to attempt to get in second year in case they miss out in third year. Registration is on first come, first served basis instead of academic merit. When registration opened in the summer, all of the spots were filled in under 1 minute. Literally. 10:01 AM.

So just when I was really looking forward to it, I found out Auslan and Visual Communication exceeded its quota before I enrolled :-\ I might have to look into some of the other suggestions, or go back to doing four subjects a semester  :'(
