3/4 without 1/2

Hey guys I'm going into year eleven next year and I'm beginning to consider my subject selection.
I've heard it's a good idea to do a 3/4 in year eleven and I am thinking of doing one.
What are some subjects that you generally don't need to do 1/2? I'm not a genius however my grades are decent (As and A+s).
Also if you did a 3/4 without doing 1/2 in year eleven what was your opinion on it?
Thanks guys :)

Further maths if you're a capable maths student. Um.. health and human development, the concepts are fairly easy to grasp ,some are really common sense and you can bullshit through questions. Psychology is a good one as well, stuff in 1/2 is different to 3/4.

This is probably a standard norm for alot of students in their VCE years, but it's definitely not essential. Just means you'll be working harder in Year 12. Usually in most cases students do one Unit 3/4 subject in Year 11 and five in Year 12 (however this differs for some), so they don't have the full six to focus on in Year 12, which is the most important year.

I can only give you advice regarding seemingly easy subjects I did and my own personal experiences.

* Health and Human Development
* Further Maths
* IT Applications (this focuses on spreadsheets, websites, database management + a few other things..... although I am aware the study design for this is changing soon).

I didn't do a 3/4 without doing a 1/2 first. I did Business Management in Year 11 as a 3/4 and found it to be one of my stronger subjects. It's definitely a good experience to understand what VCAA expects from you, and what is actually required to keep up with the content.

I recommend doing a 3/4. If you are reasonably organised and good with time management I would even recommend doing 2 3/4s if your school will let you. It will definitely alleviate the stress in Year 12.

Subjects I'd recommend
Psychology 3/4: Definitions are key. A lot of content. Some parts are incredibly boring (States of consciousness) and some parts are very interesting (sleep, memory..) - based on my personal experience :D
Biology 3/4: I really like it. Conceptually more difficult than psychology. Less rote learning and definitions to memorise.
Health Human development (3/4): Never done, (i've heard that theres a lot of content) Usually people who take either really like it or hate it.
Geography (3/4): Never done it before. You get to bring in coloured pencils into the exam :) You get to cover environmental issues etc.. If you enjoyed humanities in Year 10, you'll probably like Geo.

These subjects can be content heavy but isn't really difficult. The score you get at the end of the year is proportionate to the time and effort invested into these subjects

Further 3/4 - I don't do this subject but I've heard people say that it doesn't require a lot of work, and there isn't a lot of content.
Very easy if you are having no troubles with math. You just need to be very good with accuracy. If you are aiming high (45+) you need to ensure you don't make too many mistakes. That's the thing with VCE math and (chem/ physics) in general, you can know absolutely everything in great detail but if you make careless errors on exam day you can't be expecting to get a good score. Careless errors are harder to make in content based subjects, but I reckon do require lot more effort and time to hit the really high scores.

Business 3/4: (I'm not sure if you can do it without 1/2)
People say it's a very crammable, easy subject. You can seriously do well by ROTE learning the content.
lol.

Pretty sure Business 3/4 is fine without the 1/2.

My short answer to OP would be that there are a lot more subjects you can do without the 1/2 than ones that you can't. Pick something your school offers and that plays to your strengths and is something you like doing (ideally).

Thanks for the responses guys.
Maths is probably my best subject so  I might talk to my teacher about further in year 11, but do you need to do 1/2?
Otherwise, probably psych or bus man.
Doing 1/2 food tech this year but the scaling is so horrible that I don't think I'm going to continue it...

Doing a 3/4 in Year 11 was one of the best decisions I made... was so easy to focus on that one subject and get a good score. I changed 3 of my subjects in Year 12 and am finding it easy so far so not doing a 1/2 shouldn't be a concern unless you're thinking of maths and science.

You don't have to do 1/2 for further, it is advised but if you're decent at maths, it's really easy. I did psych and bus man 3/4 without 1/2 and I found psych really easy. Bus man is easy too, but it's a boring rote memorising subject so if you want something fun and interesting, pick psych!
