It really depends. If you're talking about 3/4, you missed the deadline about half a year ago.

If you're talking about 1/2 or lower (i.e. pre-VCE), you're fine. Your school might not let you do mid-year transfers, because I don't know how your school works, but you can still go into 3/4 without having done 1/2 (might just mean some extra reading on your part, depending on the subject).

As I said, you missed the deadline about half a year ago. You can't do just unit 3 or unit 4 and still get a study score - the study score depends on the full sequence. You'll have to just fight it out for another few months, I'm afraid. If you did a 3/4 or two a year early, you could try discussing with your school about dropping it altogether, but it might be worth your while trying to stick it out to the end, anyway.

Ok if its not possible to drop a subject and pick up another subject, is it still possible to drop a subject alltogether?  As in just not attend classes?

As I said just before, you can try discussing with your school about dropping the subject, but they'll probably say no unless you've already done a 3/4 or two (even if you have, they'll still probably say no).

If this subject is really bothering you that much, you can try approaching your school,  but I reckon the best approach would just to try and stick with it. You might surprise yourself.

Ok so its not impossible but depends on the school, okay thanks for clearing that up, and if one of the subjects you wanted to drop was english, is that possible? Thanks, sorry for all the questions.

I don't think you can drop English. Unless you are doing either/or English Language and Lit.
English is a compulsory unit in VCE and is included in your primary 4.

Blues got it - you HAVE to do English, Lit or Eng Lang to pass year 12. So if you want to drop English and aren't doing literature or English language, your school DEFINITELY won't let you do it, because VCAA's not going to like it.

Alex - I really don't think you want to do that, as much as you hate the subject. Try sticking with it, see how you go. Otherwise, you're going to lose a year, and if you can still do well in English, that's one less year you have to wait before you get into your course. Also, I hate to tell you this - if you don't like English, I doubt you'll do all that much better in lit. If you find out you don't like lit, you're even more screwed than you probably feel like you are right now.

I dont mind giving up a year, because I dont think ill even get a good study score for english anyway maybe like a 25 if im lucky. Ive failed 2 sacs and just passed my latest one, so I have no confidence in my abilities and i will probably bomb out of the exam for english. So if its definitely not possible to drop out of english, ill just have to stick with it. Thanks again Euler :)

You must complete English in VCE (a form of English: English, Literature or Language). You cannot do the VCE without doing English at some stage.

You cannot receive your VCE unless you have completed at least one form of English. Technically, you don't have to do it now, you could do it next year+ (but you won't get your VCE til then either). This is assuming you could drop it at this stage anyway.

Might seem pedantic on behalf of your school but theres actually a fairly thick book of rules they must follow.

You must complete at least three units of English to receive the VCE. So assuming you did Units 1/2, you would be able to drop English now and still get the Certificate.

However, you cannot get an ATAR unless you get a study score for English, which requires completing the 3/4 sequence for it (and sitting the exam).

I would very much recommend against it - you'd be closing a lot of pathways for yourself by not giving it a go.
