You absolutely must have a clear understanding of the definitions of words. It's SO SO SO easy to make mistakes if you have small misconceptions about words (like force, acceleration, velocity, displacement, distance, speed etc.). Talk to someone who REALLY knows what they're saying (this doesn't necessarily have to be a teacher, could just be a classmate who's very meticulous).

Essentials is miles better than maths quest, no question about that! MQ is more basic and doesn't have very difficult questions compared to essentials. Good luck Juzza!

Just thought I'd put this here:

While abey is right in that you must know your definitions, don't let that scare you just because you don't do physics. You have the maths knowledge that defines a lot of physics (such as how velocity is a vector quantity and speed is not). It is more than certainly possible to do well in this area of study without any prior knowledge of physics.

I'm not the right person to ask - I didn't use any textbook, only my teacher's notes. :P I did use Essentials for questions, though, and found that it did stuff that was so complicated I was more than prepared for anything an exam or SAC would throw at me.

Thanks man! Really appreciate the info, but I'd like to also know from your experience which textbook do you think is a better option essentials or mathsquest?

I think Maths Quest's explanations are a bit better than Essential's, but Essential has better questions. However, Essential's questions sometimes get unnecessarily hard/tedious. If I had to choose between one or the other, I'd pick Essential. It's questions are higher quality and Maths Quest has a lot of typos that you find yourself wasting time on.
