Feel as if everything is over. :(

Hey guys, I'm currently in year 12 and apparently i'm doing bad at physics. I was doing so well last year but then this year since our physiccs sacs are 50 % prac and 50% written test, I've been scoring terribly bad due to my pracc group which i had been working on. I'm apparently averaging somewhere between D - C .  I'm really sad because i wanted to achieve that 35 raw study score yet all of it seems impossible. The group which i had to work with for my prac didn't even help me do the report and when i sent it to them after i was done they told the teacher i had not done anything!!!. and the ssecond sac i decided to do 2 of the prac report and told the other 2 members of my group to do one each , then i sent them the prac reports which i finished a week before the due date yet my group didn't fiinish off their part and did not send it to the teacher on time so we received a zero! so i'm just freaking out so much, I really want to get a 90 atar aand i'm starting to lose hope. Please help me, I've been just so depreessed lately and been crying in a corner llike a baby  I seriously feel as if i'm at the point where i'm going to give up... Help me please.

Okay firstly, remember that your exam mark constitutes quite a large portion of your study score, so if you can blitz the exam, you can still manage a 35+ in Physics. Secondly, if you aren't happy with your unit 3 raw SAC average (which is not really important in terms of raw mark - your ranking is more important), there's always unit 4 for you to improve on. There is still a chance for that 35+ in Physics. Work hard with what you have left, and the hard work will pay its dividends! :)

Good luck!

Cheer up Charlie! Don't let VCE get you down :) Coming from my experience throughout VCE where I have faced many many setbacks, I found that the best thing to do is think over your mistakes (don't just ignore them) and use them as motivation to get back on your feet and start fighting again. Never ever give up. I mean, the lowest point I ever felt was after the UMAT results where I got just below the cut off for all those Dent unis that required UMAT. and as expected, I got all three rejection letters spread out IN THE MIDDLE OF SWOTVAC. Two frikin weeks before the exams. I too felt like giving up so badly. But I trudged on and continued to pump out those practice exams and thankfully I made it into the last remaining dent school - Griffith!
Now back to your situation, you are only in the middle of the year, you have a whole lot of time to turn things around. And doing bad in Physics isn't the be all and end all. You still got your other extremely important subjects like English which can definitely pull you up waaaayyy above a 90 ATAR.

Don't worry everything will work out eventually. Just think, in a years time you won't even be thinking about this. Forgot about the others in your class and concentrate on yourself. If they can't hand their work in on time that's their problem. Maybe you could ask your teacher if you could change prac groups. If you like your teacher and feel comfortable around them go see them during lunch. Have a look at the Physics resource section in ATAR notes and google physics resources too.

If you are struggling with the theory create an exercise book full of your own physics notes, not notes your teacher does in class but your own from reading the textbook etc. I did this for another subject and it really worked. During the holidays do some review questions and set yourself a goal of how much physics work you want to do.

Good luck

Don't get yourself too down about your results yet! Unit three essentially counts for little of your SS and by focusing on unit 4 and the exam you could definately pull off a 35 raw. Also if your group members are contributing very little in the prac SACs then they either don't understand the topics as well as you or they are neglecting to see the importance of practise. For you this is good. Remember at this stage it is more important to be ranked well within your cohort, not have a perfect GA1!

This is straight from VCAA:

"Percentage contributions to the study score in Physics are as follows:
• Unit 3 School-assessed Coursework: 16 per cent
• Unit 4 School-assessed Coursework: 24 per cent
• End-of-year examination: 60 per cent"

As you can see, Unit 3 SACs don't contribute as much as the Unit 4 SACs or the exam. And it's not your actual mark on those SACs that matter, but your ranking...

Don't let this get you down. You've already made the first move to fix things by asking for advice :)

It may be hard, but like some of the others here said, learn from your mistakes, and go harder than ever at Unit 4 and the exam, and a 35 study score will definitely be within your reach! :)

Good luck!!
