Someone please explain this.

A distinction grade will only equate to approximately, 'the average'?

Also, under the regulations doc, the percentage is correct to +/- 5% for HDs, Ds and Cs. This applies to all undergrad units.

I am not sure - is it saying that around 18% of students are given HDs etc.? That is quite a lot. Maybe I am wrong.

I'm not a law student but at face value it appears to stipulate that the median mark, on average, should be a credit. Probably not unreasonable IMO. If you scored better than 50% of your cohort you probably deserve better than a P.

The 5 percentage point tolerance is actually quite large in this context -- it's almost a third of the entire quota for HD's, for instance (the true percentage is allowed to vary from 13-23%). It could be harsh if you are part of a very strong cohort for some reason but otherwise I don't know enough to comment on whether or not it's reasonable. Again, at face value, it doesn't look crazy to me.

It seems like 104 students graduated with firsts. I think 73 avg is the cut-off for a first. So the bench-marking seems right I think?


Again, I am not sure. I might be missing something - they have more first class students than they have H2A, H2B and H3 combined...(my knowledge is that Monash honours are awarded on the basis of final avg, not thesis)
