Using Khmer Rouge in context piece (conflict)

Hey guys,

I'm interested in using the Khmer Rouge as one of my sources for my context pieces on Encountering Conflict. The text I'm studying at the moment is The Quiet American. I believe the Khmer Rouge fits in well with the actual context of the novel, but I'm having trouble identifying the ways in which i can incorporate it into my piece. I'm most likely going to try and do a monologue of Thomas Fowler.

Hey there, I'm also doing The Quiet American too! Khmer Rough is a pretty interesting evidence you can incorporate in. I would recommend have a look or google this book "First They Killed My Father" by Loung Ung, it used to be on VCAA list for Encountering Conflict and it's about Khmer Rough. It works pretty well with The Quiet American because Greene portrays his story in the voice of western, people who gain power. Whilst in Loung Ung, you see the voice of oppressed estern individual and the actual suffering of people as a result of war. A bit of new perspective !

I'm thinking of tying together the ideologies of both Alden Pyle and Pol Pot. Maybe writing a piece in the eyes of an American news writer, so i can bring forward a piece that couples both sides, since Pyle is American.... if anyone knows what i mean and could give me some advice it would be great!
