Studio arts course
(1/1)
Ellellelle:
Hi everyone.
I'm in year ten and thinking of doing studio arts next year. At my school we were told that the course is purely based on photography, but from research and reading on the forums, it seems more like art. On our subject selection list it is called studio arts-photography. Is it like this at anyone else's school or is the subject more broad? And can anyone else please tell me what the subject is like to do? I've heard it's very time consuming.

You can do any art form in studio arts, whether it be painting, sculpture or printing. However, your school probably chose to restrict everyone to do photography because perhaps they have more photography resources including the teacher, and it is easier to teach when everyone in the class is doing the same thing. I personally don't think this is a good way to go, maybe you should ask the teacher about it.
The subject itself is very rewarding. It can be time consuming but you just have to organise your time and workload - then it's fine. I would only choose it if you really want to do photography and believe you can focus and project your artistic abilities and creativity on this one art form, otherwise the subject won't be as rewarding and enjoyable. If my school restricted studio arts to photography, I wouldn't do it.
