Knowing integration by parts may help, but it definitely doesn't give a distinct advantage to students in exams. The VCAA exams are designed for the Study Design, if integration by parts is not on it, there will be no requirement for you to know it or ever use it on an exam.

I have heard that some students have used it to double check their integration when you need to integrate by recognition, however integration by parts is pretty much just integrating by recognition with the product rule.

If you have a bit of free time, learning integration by parts might be a bit of fun (if you enjoy maths :P) but there's no need to worry if you don't know it.

I taught myself integration by parts and the cross product (for vectors) when I was in year 12. It didn't help me at all during VCE, but it helped me a lot in Calculus 1 at university.
