Efficiency and time taken to complete exams

I was wondering if it is normal to take longer to complete exam 2's than exam 1's? The reason I ask is that I feel that when im doing an exam 1 I finish quickly and do it as well as I can but I always find the need to go over it again to check for mistakes therefore taking some more time. However when I do exam 2's I do them more slowly and concentrate on doing it once and doing it right therefore I take longer but when I finished I feel more confident that everything is correct and dont need to check. I usually finish exam 1's in 45-60 mins and exam 2's take 60-70 mins. I just want to know what everyone elses experiences are.

I do them each in ~50minutes which gives me time to redo EVERY question again within the designated time (usually, cause I have 10 minutes less then I used the first time). I always make sure I go over each question with median/mean/mode and make sure I haven't confused them and then I spend a while on geo & trig because that's my weakest area.

Remember that because Exam 2 is more writing, not just multiple choice you might take a little longer.
(Sort of like when you're typing essays and you used to be addicted to Facebook, compared to doing them hand written.)

I've found I can do an Exam 1 within 40-65 mins. (The 65 was when I had a massive headache at a school practice exam, because it was raining before we went in.) I don't remember how long it takes for Exam 2. Sorry.

Last year I found my Exam 1's would take around 30-40 minutes, with some being even quicker and some taking slightly longer.

Exam 2's took me around 45-60 minutes, but definitely a lot more than my Exam 1's. As AngelWing said, Exam 2's require you to actually show working out and come up with an answer from scratch (no options to pick!).

So don't worry if Exam 2's are taking longer than Exam 1, it's perfectly fine and also note that it does have 20 more marks than Exam 1. You'll probably find that in the real exam you'll have much more time to check over your Exam 1 than your Exam 2.

Sorry to be a bit off topic but how did you manage Premier's award. Did you 100% both exams and not a drop a SAC mark?

i may be wrong, but i believe that if you get 100% in both exams your sac marks scale to full (if you are ranked top)
i know this doesnt really help, but nossal high school had 2 premier's prizes for further last year so i dont think sacs matter (perhaps they just select randomly out of all the people who got 100% and 50?)

Sort of? My SAC marks were no where near perfect. I ended up with 96/100 raw (I made a lot of silly mistakes) but aced both exams and it scaled to 100/100. I was rank 1 by the way so that helped.

Interestingly, 14 people got Premier's Awards for Further and there were over 80 study scores of 50 last year. So I'm thinking the next best thing to use if there were plenty of people at 100/100, 40/40 and 60/60 is the GAT (yes the GAT). My maths/science/tech score for the GAT was 47/50 so maybe that helped?
