A particle is projected with speed Vm/s from a point A on a horizontal ground. The particle meets the ground, 6 seconds later, at a point B, where AB = 240 m.

Calculate the avlue of V ( Take g=10m/s)

Well first you can work out the horizontal component of the speed.

We know a = 0, t = 6 and x = 240 so you can now work out the horizontal component.

Next if we assume parabolic motion, then we can work out the vertical component.

Let up be positive and down be negative, thus:

a = -9.8, t = 3 and v = 0, you can now find out u, the initial vertical component.

Then just use Pythagoras to work out the resultant speed.
