Doing specialist 1/2 then moving into methods 3/4 ?

I changed my subject preferences really late and now I can't get into methods 1/2 but I can get into spesh 1/2. I would like to know if spesh will give me a solid foundation for methods 3/4? Also, what topic should I read up on to catch up?

You practically revisit the majority of topic necessary anyway. This just happens much more fast. I'd simply recommend just going over Methods 3/4 before Year 12 starts.

I am not doing spesh in yr 12 just the 1/2

Surely they'd let you into Methods 1&2? That's pretty harsh imo...

I think one thing that Spesh helps with is your ability to tackle/process application questions for Methods rather than the actual techniques itself. I know after doing GMA I've learnt how to visualise things and work out problems like that which I wouldn't have learnt if I was just doing Methods (subject to the individual though).

I know. I was saying that just do it as a 1/2 and don't worry about Methods for the time being. Focus on doing well in that, and understanding the relative concepts in it. Very few are relevant to Methods 3/4. However what I was saying is that, if you plan to undertake Methods 3/4 in Year 12, the coursework literally mirrors that of Year 11 Methods, and extends a bit further on. It occurs at a faster rate, so I was saying I'd recommend reading over Methods 3/4 the summer holidays before Year 12. Other than that, I wouldn't be fussed.

A lot of concepts in specialist is used in methods, such as calculus and certain trigonometric aspects, which is useful considering that a major component of methods is calculus.

I'll be honest, I haven't done specialist 1/2 (as our school didn't have it when I was in year eleven), however I have done methods 1/2 and 3/4 as well as doing specialist 3/4 right now.

Personally, you will be fine going from specialist 1/2 into methods 3/4. There are similarities (it's maths, for gods sake ) however like what someone said before, go over 1/2 methods during the break (or even 3/4 methods, they are very similar, just different difficulty), especially probability because that's one topic which is completely different from specialist.

TL;DR Yes, just go over 1/2 during the break.

You can't do Spesh without Methods anyway...

The content studied in 1/2 methods is completely applicable to 3/4. Indeed, everything you learn in 3/4 is an extension of the 1/2 content.

Oh ok I am just worried about the foundational theory but if 3/4 and 1/2 are so similar I guys I'm ok for year 12

Mention that methods is a prerequisite for a number of courses and that not being able to take it severely limits your choices of tertiary education. If they don't take that, get your parents involved. It's completely unreasonable for a school to deny a student a position in a class that serves as a prereq.
