Write/Type/No Notes for chem?

Hi guys,
Was wondering what people's opinions are on making notes for chemistry. Is it worth making notes from various sources (textbook, study guides) or better to just read? Also considering that I'm doing chem along with 3 oher subjects next year, what are your opinions on typing notes instead of writing them for increased time efficiency?
Any advice appreciated. Cheers :)

what I did was make notes for the stuff I was unsure about/had trouble remembering, so basically what I felt were harder parts of the course.

I think making notes is a pretty good way to study, sort of reconsolidates info etc :P If you have time, I suggest making notes throughout the year, that way you'll have a personalised set of notes ready to go when SWOTVAC/revision period comes along. With notes, make sure you don't cram every tiny little detail in/make it a textbook version 2. You're just gonna cbs reading it when it's time to revise. Write down the crucial/essential knowledge (and possibly info you know you'll trip up on/forget).

...but then again, it's not essential :p I know people who made it through the year without any notes...

oh hmm, the typing and writing thing is more of a preference I think. I personally don't feel I get as much out of my notes if I type them (makes it feel less personalised xD...the logic is dodgy, i know... don't ask :P)

I understand you 100% with the your preference to write 'personalised' notes over typing them. I have never ever typed up my notes because there's something with writing things down that makes me absorb what I'm learning better - I wrote all of my notes this year for Biology U3/4 but that's because I had time, being my only 3/4 subject. It's just that with 4 3/4 subjects this year, not sure if I will have the time to handwrite notes for the whole course. I will probably do what you did and write notes for the hard stuff.
Thanks for the advice :)

i think time wise, you should be fine with four 3/4s next year. Mind if I ask which 3/4s you are going to be doing? :P

I'm not sure if this will really be relevant to you, but in place of written notes I much preferred to create a small mind map for each chapter of the textbook so I could connect all of the ideas on the one page. Being more of a visual learner I guess that benefited me most but whatever suits your learning style the best!

Also, I typed a giant document throughout the year for 3/4 biology and come time for exams I had taken none of it in which lead me to just cram like crazy, and ultimately I had a false sense of preparedness leading into the exam and I definitely did not do half as well as I could've. So yeah, I would personally advise against the typing of notes because I just didn't retain the information well.

Good-luck :)
